Which network does Talkmobile use?

Talkmobile runs on Vodafone's network as a virtual operator and is owned within the same group following the merger that created VodafoneThree. Coverage therefore matches Vodafone, and Talkmobile customers are gradually gaining access to the combined Vodafone and Three mast network alongside the other brands in the group.

Voxi is the other Vodafone-owned virtual operator on this site. The two take opposite approaches: Talkmobile competes on price with fixed terms available, while Voxi sells rolling plans with data exclusions.

Price rises on Talkmobile

Talkmobile no longer applies annual price rises. It removed the increase clause from its terms and conditions in December 2024, and states that its plans carry no annual rises and no CPI or RPI linked increases.

Previously Talkmobile had retained the right to increase prices each year using CPI plus 3.9 per cent on 12 month SIM contracts, though in practice it had chosen not to apply increases for several years before removing the clause. Ofcom has since banned inflation-linked increases for new contracts in any case.

This makes Talkmobile one of the few providers where the advertised monthly price should hold for the length of the term. Because the position is defined by the absence of a clause rather than by a promotional guarantee, confirm the current terms attached to the specific deal before relying on it.

Roaming with Talkmobile

Talkmobile includes EU roaming on its plans with a monthly data allowance for use abroad, reported at 5GB per month. Calls and texts within covered destinations come from your UK allowance.

That is a lower roaming data allowance than some competitors include, though the fact that roaming is included at all distinguishes Talkmobile from Vodafone itself, which reintroduced European charges. Rates and destination lists outside the EU differ, so check the position for travel further afield.

Contract lengths and handset deals

Handset deals on Talkmobile run for 24 months. There is no 36 month option, which is worth knowing because a 36 month term lowers the monthly figure while raising the total payable, and it is common on other networks. Talkmobile also sells SIM-only plans on rolling 30 day and 12 month terms, but those are separate from the handset deals compared on this page.

What to compare on Talkmobile

Talkmobile's main advantage is that the price you agree should be the price you pay, because the increase clause has been removed rather than merely waived for a period. When comparing against a network that applies an annual April increase, add that increase into the competing total before judging which is cheaper.

Check the roaming allowance if you travel, since the included data is lower than several rivals offer. If roaming matters more than price, Tesco Mobile and Mozillion both include larger roaming allowances on different networks.
