Which network does giffgaff use?

giffgaff runs on O2's network as a mobile virtual network operator and sits within the Virgin Media O2 business. Coverage and 5G availability therefore match O2 rather than being separate.

Tesco Mobile also runs on O2, which makes those two providers and O2 itself directly comparable on coverage and different only on price and terms. If O2 signal is poor where you live, changing between these three will not improve it.

Price rises on giffgaff

giffgaff guarantees no mid-contract price rises on its 18 month plans, and presents this as a contractual commitment rather than a stated intention. The guarantee has been tied to sign-up windows in the past, so check that the specific deal you are looking at carries it before relying on the guarantee.

Check three things specifically. Confirm whether the plan you are looking at carries the 18 month price rise guarantee. Check the standard rate that a promotional price reverts to. Confirm the 5GB roaming cap is enough if you travel, since several rival providers include more.
