The TCL 60R is one of the cheapest 5G phones on the market, pairing next-generation connectivity with a big battery and a headphone jack at a rock-bottom price. Almost everything else about it is basic, but 5G at this cost is genuinely unusual.

60R: Display

The 6.7-inch IPS LCD runs at 120Hz, which keeps scrolling smoother than the 60Hz screens common this cheap, with a Mohs level 5 front.

Resolution is 720 x 1600 at around 262 pixels per inch and typical brightness is just 480 nits, so text looks soft and sunlight visibility is poor.

60R: Camera

The single 50MP main camera with PDAF handles daylight snaps, with an 8MP selfie camera on the front.

GSMArena lists an auxiliary lens alongside the main sensor but the secondary lens specifications are not individually itemised in the GSMArena spec table and should be confirmed before purchase. Video tops out at 1080p at 30fps.

60R: Battery

The 5,200mAh battery is rated at 52:48 hours of endurance on the EU energy label, among the better results at this level, so two days of light use is realistic.

Charging is very slow at just 10W, so a full charge is a lengthy overnight affair, slower even than most budget rivals.

60R: Size, Weight and Build

At 165.6 x 76.2 x 8.2mm and 190g with a plastic build and IP54 splash rating, it comes in Space Gray and Pure White.

Storage is fixed at a single 128GB/4GB configuration, and while a shared microSD slot is present, 4GB of RAM is the only memory option and limits multitasking.

60R: Performance

The Dimensity 6300 with 4GB of RAM covers the basics of calls, messaging and browsing with 5G connectivity, which is the phone's whole pitch at the price.

TCL commits to just one major Android upgrade from Android 15, one of the shortest windows on this site, so long-term buyers should factor that in.

60R: Who Should Buy

Buy the TCL 60R if you want 5G for the least money possible and your needs stop at calls, messaging and light browsing with a headphone jack. Buyers who can spend a little more for a much better all-round phone should look at the Galaxy A26, which adds an AMOLED screen, faster charging and a six-year update window.
