The Samsung Galaxy S24 is the compact flagship of Samsung's 2024 line, now a strong value buy since the S25 and S26 arrived. One of the few small premium Androids on sale, it stands out for its longevity, with a commitment to up to seven major Android upgrades, plus the Galaxy AI features introduced with this generation.
The 6.2-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X runs at 120Hz with a 1080 x 2340 resolution and a 2,600-nit peak, with GSMArena measuring 1,401 nits of maximum brightness in its lab test, under Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
The panel is bright, smooth and flat, and at 6.2 inches this is one of the few high-end phones that suits smaller hands, with little to fault beyond its FHD+ rather than QHD+ resolution.
The triple camera pairs a 50MP main sensor with OIS, a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom and OIS, and a 12MP ultrawide, with a 12MP selfie camera and 8K video. A dedicated telephoto is a real advantage over cheaper phones.
The 10MP telephoto resolution is modest next to Ultra periscopes, so long-range detail is the clearest limit.
The 4,000mAh battery returned a solid active use score of 12:06 hours in GSMArena's lab, good for such a compact phone, with 25W wired charging at 50% in 30 minutes, plus 15W wireless and reverse wireless.
Charging is slow against the fast-charging systems on rivals, so charging speed rather than endurance is the weak point.
At 147 x 70.6 x 7.6mm and around 167g with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on both faces, an Armor aluminium 2 frame and IP68 sealing, the S24 is compact and light while built to full flagship standard, in colours including Cobalt Violet and Amber Yellow.
There is no microSD slot or headphone jack, the usual flagship trade-offs.
UK units use the Exynos 2400, while US, Canadian and Chinese units get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, both with up to 12GB of RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. It launched on Android 14 and is still updated, with the seven-upgrade commitment leaving years of support, plus Samsung DeX and Galaxy AI.
UK buyers cannot choose the Snapdragon version, so US-unit reviews may not fully reflect the phone sold here, though the Exynos 2400 is a strong performer.
