The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 is Samsung's mainstream book-style foldable, built for buyers who want a tablet-sized screen that folds down into a phone. At 201g it is lighter than the 215g Galaxy Z Fold7 and moves to a wider 7.6-inch 4:3 main display, a different shape from the taller panel on the model it replaces.
Galaxy Z Fold8: Display
The main screen is a 7.6-inch foldable Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X running at 120Hz with an 1828 x 2448 resolution in a 4:3 ratio, and a 5.5-inch 120Hz cover screen handles quick tasks while the phone is closed. The squarer main panel gives more width for reading and side-by-side apps than the taller 8.0-inch screen on the Galaxy Z Fold7.
At 7.6 inches the unfolded display is physically smaller than both the 8.0-inch Fold7 and the pricier Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, so anyone chasing maximum screen area gives up a little here, and the main panel keeps a plastic protective layer with a central crease rather than glass.
Galaxy Z Fold8: Camera
The rear camera is a dual system: a 50MP f/1.8 wide with optical stabilisation and a 50MP ultrawide with autofocus, recording video up to 8K at 30fps. The folding body lets you set the phone down half-open so the main sensor works as its own tripod.
There is no telephoto lens, so zoom is digital only, and the Fold8 drops both the 200MP main sensor and the 3x telephoto that the Galaxy Z Fold7 carried. Buyers who want that optical reach will need the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, which retains the 200MP wide and a dedicated 3x telephoto.
Galaxy Z Fold8: Battery
The 4800mAh battery is larger than the 4400mAh cell in the Galaxy Z Fold7 and steps charging up to 45W wired, which Samsung rates at 63% in 30 minutes, alongside 20W wireless and 4.5W reverse wireless for topping up accessories.
The Fold8 has not yet been through independent battery testing, so its real-world endurance is unconfirmed. For context, the Fold7 posted an active use score of around 11 hours 44 minutes in GSMArena's lab, and the larger cell here has scope to improve on that.
Galaxy Z Fold8: Size, Weight and Build
Folded, the Fold8 measures 81.9 x 123.9 x 9.7mm and weighs 201g, lighter than the 215g Fold7, and the build pairs a Gorilla Glass Victus 2 back and aluminium frame with Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 on the cover. It comes in Graphite, Cream, Lavender and Pistachio.
Even closed it is thicker than the Fold7 at 9.7mm against 8.9mm, so it makes a more obvious bulge in a pocket, and the IP48 rating covers water immersion but only guards against solid particles larger than 1mm rather than fine dust.
Galaxy Z Fold8: Performance
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 with Adreno 840 graphics and 12GB or 16GB of RAM should handle demanding apps and multi-window use comfortably, with storage from 256GB up to 1TB on UFS 4.x. It ships on Android 17 with One UI 9 and up to seven major OS upgrades from launch, a support window that is still active.
As an untested launch device its sustained performance and thermal behaviour under load are not yet verified, and there is no card slot, so the storage tier you pick at purchase is the storage you keep.
Galaxy Z Fold8: Who Should Buy
The Galaxy Z Fold8 suits someone who wants a large folding screen and quick 45W charging, and is content with a two-camera setup and no optical zoom in exchange for sitting below the Ultra on price. Anyone who needs a telephoto lens or the largest possible display should step up to the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, while those upgrading from an older Galaxy Z Fold will notice the lighter body and faster charging most. Buyers comparing on contract length or upfront cost will find current network pricing in the table above.
