The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is the camera and stylus flagship of the previous generation, now a strong value buy since the S25 Ultra and S26 Ultra arrived. It was the first Ultra with a titanium frame and Gorilla Armor glass, and it keeps the built-in S Pen and a commitment to up to seven major Android upgrades.
The 6.8-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X runs at 120Hz with a 1440 x 3120 QHD+ resolution and measured 1,447 nits of maximum brightness in GSMArena's lab test, with the 2,600-nit peak reserved for HDR content. The Gorilla Armor glass adds an anti-reflective coating that cuts glare noticeably.
The panel is flat rather than curved, which most buyers will prefer, and there is little to fault here beyond newer models edging ahead on peak brightness.
The quad camera pairs a 200MP main sensor with OIS, a 50MP periscope with 5x optical zoom, a 10MP 3x telephoto and a 12MP ultrawide, with a 12MP selfie camera and 8K video. The two dedicated zoom lenses give real reach that single-telephoto rivals cannot match.
Video is comprehensive up to 8K, and the only notable limit is the 10MP resolution of the shorter 3x telephoto.
The 5,000mAh battery returned an active use score of 13:49 hours in GSMArena's lab, strong for a flagship, with 45W wired charging quoted at 65% in 30 minutes, plus 15W wireless and reverse wireless.
45W is slow against the 80W-plus systems on rivals, so charging speed rather than endurance is the weak point.
At 162.3 x 79 x 8.6mm and around 232g with Gorilla Armor on both faces, a grade 2 titanium frame and IP68 sealing, the S24 Ultra is a large, premium phone with the S Pen housed in the body, in a range of titanium finishes.
At 232g and 79mm wide it is a big, heavy phone, the trade-off for the large screen, stylus and quad camera.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with 12GB of RAM and UFS 4.0 storage delivers genuine flagship speed, on Android 14 at launch and since updated, with the seven-upgrade commitment leaving years of support. Samsung DeX and UWB round out the productivity case.
The chip is now two generations behind Qualcomm's newest, so while still very fast, it is no longer the quickest silicon at the price.
Buy the Galaxy S24 Ultra at a discount if you want a stylus, dual optical zoom and years of remaining updates without paying current-flagship money.
