The 6.3-inch P-OLED runs at 120Hz with a 1080 x 2424 resolution, is rated at 1,800 nits in high brightness mode, and measured 1,930 nits in GSMArena's lab test, an outdoor-visibility result that still beats most of the mid-range. The 2,700-nit peak applies to HDR content.
Screen protection is ageing Gorilla Glass 3 with a Mohs level 4 rating, one of this phone's clearest economies and an area the Pixel 10a upgraded.
The 48MP main camera with OIS and 13MP ultrawide carry identical specifications to the newer Pixel 10a, backed by Google's image processing, with a 13MP selfie camera and 4K video at up to 60fps.
There is no telephoto lens, so zoomed shots lean on software, and the camera hardware being unchanged in the successor tells you Google considers it good enough rather than a priority.

At 154.7 x 73.3 x 8.9mm and 186g with an aluminium frame, plastic back and IP68 rating, the 9a is a compact, practical design in four colours: Obsidian, Porcelain, Iris and Peony.
The 8.9mm profile is chunky by current standards, and the plastic back marks it against glass-backed rivals at its original price, though less so at clearance money.
The Tensor G4 with 8GB of RAM runs Google's software smoothly and identically to the Pixel 10a, and the seven-upgrade commitment from Android 15 still has most of its life ahead.
Sustained gaming sits well behind similarly priced Snapdragon phones, 8GB is the only RAM option, and one year of the update window is already spent compared with buying the 10a.
Buy the Pixel 9a only at a clear discount to the Pixel 10a: the two share their chip, cameras and battery capacity, so the saving is the whole argument. At the right price it is an excellent compact phone for buyers who value camera processing and update length over speed; at close to Pixel 10a money, buy the newer phone's brighter screen and better endurance instead.
