The Google Pixel 8 Pro is Google's 2023 camera flagship, now a strong value buy since the Pixel 9 and 10 Pro models arrived. It pairs Google's computational photography with a promise of seven years of OS, security and feature updates, so even bought today it stays supported well into the future.

Pixel 8 Pro: Display

The 6.7-inch LTPO OLED runs at 120Hz with a sharp 1344 x 2992 resolution and quotes 1600 nits in high-brightness mode, with GSMArena measuring exactly 1,600 nits in its lab test and a 2,400-nit peak reserved for HDR.

Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protects the flat front and the panel is bright enough for confident outdoor use, leaving little to fault here.

Pixel 8 Pro: Camera

The triple camera pairs a 50MP main sensor with OIS, a 48MP periscope telephoto with OIS and 5x optical zoom, and a 48MP ultrawide with autofocus, backed by a 10.5MP ultrawide selfie camera. This is among the strongest camera sets at the price, with Google's processing and features like Best Take and Zoom Enhance.

Video reaches 4K at 60fps with 10-bit HDR, a comprehensive set with no real weak point.

Pixel 8 Pro: Battery

The 5,050mAh battery returned an active use score of 11:14 hours in GSMArena's lab, enough for a full day, with 30W wired charging at 50% in 30 minutes, plus 23W wireless and reverse wireless.

Charging is slow against the 80W-plus systems on many rivals, so charging speed rather than endurance is the weak point.

Pixel 8 Pro: Size, Weight and Build

At 162.6 x 76.5 x 8.8mm and 213g with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on both faces, an aluminium frame and IP68 sealing, the Pixel 8 Pro is a large, premium phone in colours including Bay and Porcelain. It adds a skin-temperature sensor and UWB.

At 213g it is heavy, the trade-off for the large screen and triple camera.

Pixel 8 Pro: Performance

The Google Tensor G3 with 12GB of RAM drives the phone's AI and camera features and handles everyday use smoothly, on Android 14 at launch and since updated, with the seven-year commitment leaving years of support.

Tensor chips prioritise AI over raw speed and can run warm under sustained load, so this is not the fastest silicon at the price, though it remains capable for daily use.
