The Google Pixel 10a is the budget entry point to the current Pixel range, keeping the compact 6.3-inch format of the Pixel 9a while upgrading the screen glass, charging and battery life. The chipset does not move on, though: this phone runs the same Tensor G4 as its predecessor rather than the newer silicon in the rest of the Pixel 10 family.
Pixel 10a: Display
The 6.3-inch P-OLED panel runs at 120Hz with a 1080 x 2424 resolution and is rated at 2,000 nits in high brightness mode, with GSMArena's lab measuring 2,169 nits, an unusually strong result at this price. The 3,000-nit peak figure applies to HDR content only, and protection steps up to Gorilla Glass 7i from the ageing Gorilla Glass 3 on the Pixel 9a.
Sharpness is ordinary for the money at 1080p, and the Mohs level 4 hardness rating suggests a screen protector is still worthwhile.
Pixel 10a: Camera
The 48MP main camera with OIS and 13MP ultrawide carry identical specifications to the Pixel 9a, with a 13MP selfie camera and 4K video at up to 60fps, so image quality gains over the older phone should come from processing rather than hardware.
There is no telephoto lens, and buyers hoping for new camera hardware over the 9a will not find it here.
Pixel 10a: Battery
The 5,100mAh cell matches the Pixel 9a's on paper but delivers far more from it: GSMArena's active use score improved to 15:13 hours from the 9a's 12:42, and wired charging steps up to 30W, quoted at 50% in 30 minutes, with 10W wireless.
30W is still modest by mid-range standards, and a full charge will take noticeably longer than phones with 60W-plus systems.
Pixel 10a: Size, Weight and Build
At 153.9 x 73 x 9mm and 183g with an aluminium frame and IP68 rating, the 10a is compact and slightly lighter than the 186g Pixel 9a, and it comes in four colours: Obsidian, Fog, Berry and Lavender.
The 9mm profile is chunky next to the 7.2mm class of current flagships, and the back is plastic rather than glass.
Pixel 10a: Performance
The Tensor G4 with 8GB of RAM should handle everyday apps without complaint, and the software offer is the real story: Android 16 with up to seven major Android upgrades, a window that has only just opened and is rare at this price. Satellite SOS support is included.
The carried-over chip and slower UFS 3.1 storage mean sustained gaming and heavy multitasking sit well behind similarly priced Snapdragon rivals, and 8GB of RAM is the only option.
Pixel 10a: Who Should Buy
Buy the Pixel 10a if you want Google's photo processing and the longest software support in the budget class, and you care more about battery life than raw speed. Pixel 9a owners should stay put, since the chip, cameras and battery capacity are unchanged, and anyone who finds the 10a's price close to the Pixel 9a on a deal should weigh the older phone's discount against the newer one's brighter screen and better endurance. Buyers comparing monthly costs will find current network pricing in the table above.
